modifying a v8 su carb manifold

being the cheap skate i am i dont want to fork out $500 for a 4bbl manifold so i might try to cut the rise of a standard intake and weld on 1 inch 4bbl spacer to make a 4 bbl intake .i need it to run a 425 impco.has anyone done this before

I milled down a manifold and bolted on a 2brl holley adapter, you could bolt on a 4 to 2brl adapter instead. To make a decent 4rbl manifold out of the stock one will require cutting into the coolant passages to open up the plenum and rewelding them up .

I have a manifold that was modified for a 2 barrel holley that I then tried to add adaptor plates to take a Rochestor Qjet. I dont need it anymore (not sure it was going to work that well anyway). Its yours if you want it to experiment with.

I had a look but dont have any photo's of any detail only the finished manifold with carb and lpg mixer attached. But this one of a 4.4 with 450 holley is similar to what i did.

mate adapting two to four will be bad for flow and the result will be poor mixture, just save up and buy the correct manifold that way you will end up with good results that you will be happy with and won't be a waist off time.

Stuffing around with a standard manifold is mostly a waste of time and money, and as mentioned above is inefficient. Get an Edelbrock dual plane manifold and a Rochester Quadrajet. A Q-jet from a 253 Commodore is pretty near perfect for a Rover V8 and will not need rejetting. Make sure the plastic packing piece is in the float bowl. Most late model QJ's had this as standard. It allows the carb to work well at high angles. If you go this way and find you would like more top end performance, you can start reducing the height of the plane divider until you are happy. Note that this does reduce performance at lower revs.
