    Detroit locker question

    G'day.
    My Jitny has the original ten spline axles in the rear diff.
    I have Maxi 24 spline axles and end caps sitting on the bench.
    Does the Detroit locker come complete with 24 spline centres ?
    Can I just change over my crown wheel and pinion etc, or do I have to buy a later model 24 spline diff to get enough bits ?
    Is there a Detroit Agent here in OZ ?

    Hi Robert,

    If you have maxi's to suit your current early D1 diff,(IE imperial bolts on hub flange) then yes, just order a Detroit locker to suit 24 spline D1 from late 1994 on. You will receive a complete centre that you just swap over your crownwheel and best advice is to fit new carrier bearings and get the centre set up properly. It isn't difficult and Matt rovercare has already i think put up a tutorial here somewhere.

    When ordering bearings, you will need differential serial number, stamped on the axle housing LH tube at the rear next to the horizontal weld.

    'Locked drive agencies' are a distributor, they are in Sydney area.

    Sorry for the highjack, i've been interested in this question to for a while
    I'm about to fit a 10 spline ARB airlocker to the rear of my 92 d1.
    Seeing i had the standard axles out today and one is twisted at the splines i will need to upgrade my axles soon, so could i fit a 24 spline crownwheel to my 10spline airlocker and run 24 spline standard or maxi axles?

    Oh poor young grasshopper, you've been misguided about differentials

    The crown wheel is just that, the big toothy wheel on the locker itself, not incorporating the bit the axles slide into, you'll need to have the side gears in the locker rebroached, or just purchase some 10 spline axles from Hytuff

    No.
    The Crown wheel has no splines, the splines that carry the axle are in the side gears of the diff.
    I would think you should be able to get 24 spline one from ARB to fit your air locker.

    the 10 spline axles from high tough sounds the go

    although Jack mac is really hard to deal with, he was able to re broach my 10spline gears in my first detroit to 24 spline.
    so tim, it may pay to ring him...keep the conversation to a minimum...
    can you re broach 10spline arb airlocker gears to 24spline and if so how much?

    anything longer than that conversation and i fear you will loose him

    from memory it cost my 180bucks??

    $180 is pretty good, i've heard alot about jack mac being hard to deal
