    Discovery rear diff options

I have Disco S2 1994. What vehicles have the same rear diff housing, not just diff centre but disc to disc? RR, Disco 1,2 and3???? and if anyone has one let me know. The one I have is badly bent and I need a new housing. Tried straightening but didn't rearly work.
    Cheers

If your's is a 1994 model it will be a disco series1 update model, the update happend around 1993-94, and the disco series 2 came in around 1998-99, as far as i know pretty much all classic rangie housings should fit without to much hassle but i think you'd be best with a disco1 housing (pre-update or update model) the disco series2 and 3 housings won't fit along with the first of the p38 rangies onwards
    If that makes any sence

I believe the update axles and differential have different splines to the earlier model, but everything else is the same.

a whole assembly out of a wreck should be pretty cheap

If it is a Disco2, then that axle was unique to it.

Sorry, I am an idiot. It is a series 1 disco! I don't know what I was thinking. I have changed the donut to a uni-joint.
    Thanks for the info.

Your diff will have sway bar brackets fitted so if you're running those still you don't have many options.

Any Landy wrecker will have plenty of late D1 axle casings though.

The shock absorber mountings are different on a later D1 to early RRC.

I know 'cos I fitted a rear axle assy from a D1 to my '86 RRC (the RR had one shock to the front on one side and one to the rear on the other side. It's easy to get around that - it only means relocating the upper shpck mount to suit the axle assy.)
