Where to direct the Thomas PTO shafts

    Howdy,

I am now the grateful owner of Slunnies Thomas PTO adapter for the LT95 in the Stage 1 V8

I have installed the adapter and it works a treat. I need to fabricate the lever/handle arrangement. For the knob I have got a black version of the series red transfer lever knob, just perfect for the job.

I have also got a parts list for the PTO with a diagram that shows what order the bits go in. But I do have one question that still eludes me, I am hoping that someone who has installed these before might be able to help.

Did the front end of the PTO shaft go over or under the front cross member on yours?

Looking at what is there it appears that there are too many suspension bits (e.g. steering damper, etc.) for it to go under. But for it to go over means cutting a hole in the bodywork. Is that what has been done?

I do not see any need to cut into the cross member itself.

It seems my pics have dropped off somehow, but this thread covers some of it.
My driveshafts went over the cross member but I had to remove the steering damper.

From memory the winch I had went off the Stage 1 and pretty much the same fit into the County

    Thanks Deejay.

That thread is about the most informative one I have found on the interweb. Shame about the missing photos, I see that some got lost during the system upgrade

Looking at one of the surviving photos though, it appears your drive line went under the cross member, but over the front axle. Or am I just seeing things? On mine that is one of the options I have been considering but I don't want to lose the steering damper.

I see also in yours that the winch is mounted low. How did that affect your entry angle? Even with no winch on mine I bash the front bumper on inclines every now and then.

What I am hoping to be able to do is run it over the top of the front cross member. That means having a high mounted winch. Otherwise I could turn the winch upside down, have the shaft come out on top but mount it lower.

My main concern about mounting high is losing the hand crank option, which does get used from time to time.

I had a look at my old pics with no luck. My setup had the shaft running above the crossmember & front axle. Never had any issues with it dragging - although it did- just a bigger grader blade. I did lose the damper & had to nip the floorboards near the seat box to get clearance on both the stage 1 & County because it was a range rover gearbox take off which had a shallower angle & shorter distance away from the tfr box. I just used sheet lead & sealastic to create a small hump.

    Thanks Deejay. Much appreciated.

Rain permitting, I am going to have a scramble underneath tomorrow with the drive shafts and see if I can clamp things where they ought to go.

Pretty much resolved to mounting the bracket on the top of the bumper rather than between the dumb irons.

    Cheers
