Sorry I work in the evenings, however have you checked the fuses. The later Land Rover and post 1984 phase II RRc have a full set of fuses where there is a fuse for each beam on each side. But do not know if the 90 falls into the same category.

Yes diana fuses checked...integrity of the wire checked...bulb checked. switch has been replaced we have done everything we can think of thats why we think that maybe its an earthing issue.

he has checked it for power but because he is on his own he is having troubles checking with the multi meter and not knowing whats going on at the light end as we have been checking from the fuse box etc.
I think its just hard from him to check holding the probes while manoeuvring switches etc. I dont get home until its dark thats why I cant help him...and we just haven't had enough days off together

An outside-the-square question: Could it be that the headlight high beam portion of the bulb is broken?

no bulb has been rung out and is testing fine! changed the bulb just to be sure and still no go

if its a earth problem.......just run a wire from the the earth terminal of the globe to an earth somewhere......

if the light then works.......you know its an earth problem......

whats been removed......is there a battery still connected so you can check to see if theres power at the globe....?

If the low beam on the same side works then it shouldn't be an earthing issue and if the high beam on the other side works then it's not a switch issue.

That is why I considered it to be either globe or fuse issue.

You have answered the globe and fuse issue so the remaining places for your fault are the connector on the back of the globe, or the hi beam wire or connectors between the headlamp and where the hi-beam branches to each side, (or the fuse box if there are fuses for both high beams).

Get muddymech to check that there is power to the fuse, change it anyway and check both sides. Then check each wire and connector between the globe and firewall.

You may find that it is a dry joint or dirty connector.

You shouldn't need a multi-meter just a 12V test pencil should do the job. Clamp the lead to a good earth and (starting at the headlamp is often easiest) test each connector in turn until you get power, then the fault is the wire or connector immediately after that (one back on your test pattern).
