    TD5, Surging Badly above 2700rpm......????

    Hi Guys,

Just got the old man’s D2 auto and when driven above about 2700 rpm. It surges badly,???

I plugged in my nanocom it logs a fault saying.

    · EGR modulator short circuit. (will just replace witha removal kit)
I tried changing the modulator over with one from my Defender but made no difference.

    Any ideas .

    Thanks Guys Ben

too early to think about the surging but the egr fault is easy...
step 1. remove the egr system and replace with http://www.aulro.com/afvb/verandah/8...stock-now.html.

step 2. ignore the logged egr fault.

limp mode wont surge, it will give you the feeling like the engine has no power...cos it wont..

    cheers phil

Whilst surging can be caused by low fuel pressure due to a failing pump, it seems that the most common cause is faulty boost control allowing excessive boost, so the ecu cuts fuel. Faulty boost can be caused by a stuck/sticky wastegate, a faulty wastegate actuator or a faulty boost modulator. If the wastegate is free to move and the actuator diaphragm isn't holed (try sucking on the pressure tube) then bypass the modulator by connecting a tube from the turbo outlet pipe (below the A/C compressor) directly to the wastegate actuator. This will provide base boost which means it will go as well as a Defender until the modulator is replaced.

Mine surged badly at 3000 RPM & over & it was a faulty MAF sensor.

    Could be your problem.....

If your fender is a TD5,swap them over & see how you go.

Cheers for the help guys, turns out one of the small black hoses had a hole in it, just bypassed the boost controler(i think thats what it is, its the small black box), and just plumbed it up like my defender. Seems to run fine. I will get new hose from Repco and plumb it back in.
