    Ping sound while Accelerating TD5

    Hi all,

Just recently i have begun to hear a pinging noise from somewhere in the car. It hard to pin point where it is coming from but when applying the throttle the noise is there and when you release it goes away. The interesting part is that when reversing and starting off up to around 50-60Km's I don't here the ping.

Perhaps there's a small leak from the exhaust manifold gasket (not yet a big leak).

Yep I'll bet money its the manifold warped & the gasket blowing. I'd get it looked at asap because it'll just break the manifold studs , which can be an arse to remove been there done that.

As you say it is a "ping" to me it sounds like it is coming from the prop shaft - have a check of the uni joints. Maybe the slack in the joints is being taken up, hence pinging, with initial acceleration. Also check prop shaft bolts as they could be loose too.
