    That's the spirit

Little tip that might help you out...
Get a screwdriver that fits as snugly as possible in the adjuster slot. Makes it easier to keep the setting while you do the locknut up.
If the screwdriver is too narrow the adjuster screw tends to turn as you do the locknut up and the gap changes.

Once you've done them all start again at the first one and re-check the clearance and that the locknut is tight. Might seem obvious, but it gives a good level of confidence that its all OK before you put the cover back on.
If you don't, you'll likely get the nagging feeling later in the day wondering if you missed one...and then probably getting scared, pulling the cover off and checking anyway.

Do the job - explicitly re-check what you've done - then forget about it.

I have the same motor in my Defender

They are very easy to do mate

Just one other thing worth noting, the rocker cover gasket is recomended to be replaced after 5 removals. This would be close to right. They are roughly $6.60 and save that great oily mess leaking down the back of your head

Also I was told valve clearances should be done every 10,000 on a 300 Tdi

Well this one is around 70,000 without being touched, so best get to it!

I reckon you'll definitely notice a difference with that

I did mine a while ago after it was a bit sluggish, turned out I had smashed a valve cap, the difference was amazing

I actually have 7 new valve caps (long story!) that I was considering replacing when I did the clearances, but I think you have to lift the cam gear to get to them?

Not having a decent torque wrench I would be a little hesitant.

Nope thats not that case mate

I just adjusted mine all the way back, slipped the old one out and put a new one it. I did all 8 at the same time

There is enough adjustment in them for it too fit
