TD5 and Oil Catch Tank
Hi all
Would someone be able to give me the run down on "OIL Catch Tanks" being added to the breather tube of the TD5 engine? What are the benefits? What is the best to get if any? Where and how to mount?
Thanks
Tony

Well the non-technical answer is,
It takes away the “hot oily” air from getting into your air intake and the associated oil coating through the intercooler pipes and inlet manifold only to inhibit combustion.
If you remove it and the EGR system then there is no oily contaminates going into the air intake. That’s assuming that you don’t reconnect the catch can to back to the air intake.
The down side is that you have no “suction” (positive ventilation) of the rocker cover which insures that you don’t pressurise the sump. To ensure this doesn’t happen you need to make sure there is no major impediment to the escaping rocker cover gas to the air. Note venting to the air is illegal so I suppose that’s a negative as well.
