DII TD5 breakdown
I have just returned from out long awaited trip to Karijini and Exmouth after buying a 2000 DII with 140k kms that looked in good condition. Unfortunately the car broke down 150km outside Tom Price at 6pm and had to be towed into town. The engine started making a bad rattling sound then lost all power. They could not fix it at Tom Price so car has now been towed to Perth. Will update as soon as I find out what has happened. This has worked out to be an expensive trip !
Cheers,
Stew

D2 Breakdown
Sorry to hear your news Stew
I had similiar woes on my first major outing last year 1100ks from home. Turned out to be oil in the injector loom.New loom and $150.00 later all good.Hope yours turns out to be something similiar. Mine lost all power and sounded pretty crook but would be Ok if turned off ignition and locked and unlocked with key fob. But would not last long.
Cheers

Thanks LR25TD and David
Just before I left I had the car serviced at Discovery Autos in Wangarra and had the engine harness replaced (which did have oil in it), new engine mounts fitted (for vibration fix), and fixed the three amigos fault with a new ABS modulator. In all getting fairly expensive :-)
I can see why you need to have a passion for Land Rovers to invest so much in them, and the strange thing is I still do....

UGH, but before you go elsewhere make sure your heater hoses are tied tight (with wire perhaps) cos my zip tie got cut with a stone causing heater hose to get cut by fan blade (hose moved with vibration). second time i have had stone damage, other time was tow from arnhem land to darwin with hole in radiator due to foreign object dragged by fan blade. NOW I'M GOING TO PUT A BETTER STONE GUARD NEAR THERMOSTAT.
