    Military oil specifications

The servicing data plate on a perentie specifies OMD115 as the gearbox oil and FMX for the transfer case.
I'm assuming that FMX is the old castrol synthetic that was developed for Ford but is no longer available, and I have no idea what OMD115 is!
what oils should I be using?
The T/C has the Tapered roller bearing setup, and the gearbox feels to be in good nick and changes nicely but is a little bit whiney when worked hard.

OMD is Oils, Mineral,Detergent 115, which is ADF speak for Diesel Oil
Back in the bad old days there was OMD 110, which was for petrol engines, the 115 oil has a higher detergent rating. Just before I left the J in 2000, 110 was deleted from stock and 115 used in all engines.

OMD 115 took over from 110 during the mid 80,s and both were used in petrol and diesel engines, we used it (them) in m113,s and rovers staff cars and mk5,s as it was the only oil supplied. other than the higher detergent content not a lot of difference between petrol and diesel oil

    omd 115 = 15/40 diesel engine oil.

nearest current civvie oil is caltes delo 15/40 but caltex rx super is also on the cards.

at the end of the day, almost any mineral 15/40w diesel engine oil is good for the omd115 spec.

nope sorry, wrong. especially wrong if youve done your mandated fraud and ethics awareness courses this year.

omd 115 is diesel engine oil always has always will be.

there is no such beast as oep89 used in land based vehicles perchance you have made a typo when typing oep90 which is a light gear oil and might be suitable for some petrol engines but I wouldnt reccomend using it. OEP 220 is the traditional gearbox/diff oil
there is no such beast as omd 113 in current service on land based vehicles.

ox46 + 47 and om 33 are hydraulic oils as are a bunch of others and ox 47 also doubles as auto fluid.

Yeah, we used to put OMD115 in the M113 motor, ox47 in the pivot steers and I think it was om13 in the allison tranny (but I'm not sure on that one, it's been a while).

    ox = oils miscellaneous

GinGin Jones once put 20 or so pints into the motor before he realised he'd forgotten to put in the sump plug. His second mistake was telling someone about it

Well Eddie, if you are a Stoker (note the capitalisation of the word Stoker), you should know that OEP is Oil Extreme Pressure, for gear lubrication only, not for motor oil. Two different oils for two completely different purposes.

Actually, I think om13 might have been grease.

No, luckily for him he still had the drip tray underneath.
