Hi
The OMD115 has now been superseded in service by Delvac. The OX47 is only used in transmit ions. The high pressure oil used in the Diffs is OEP22o - with a red dye additive put in the M113AS1/4 in order to detect any cracking in the final drive housing.
In the ASLAV fleet we do not employ the red dye. Delvac was hard to come bye in Afghanistan at times and a shell 15w/ 40 was supplied with no ill efeects in the ASLAV.
Regards
T1ASLAV
OZZIRT - i never stated that OEP 89 goes into the engine! lol, jackz stated at the start of the thread that on the servicing data plate OMD115 is used for the gearbox oil
BLKNIGHT - i wasnt implying that i would get any oil, i was meaning to imply that it is still readly available
we use OMD113 in our sumps, (V16 ALCO diesels) used to use OMD115 in the governors (which has been superseeded by OEP89), we also use OEP89 in our gearboxes (which used to be OMD115 when the yanks owned the ship)
maybe i could be i could be wrong to think this but perhaps what i've just stated with the oils and how we use them is only good for marinised diesel engines, gearboxes, governors etc.. and it might not work this way with road going diesels
GinGin WA. He was/is a top bloke.
We used to use gamelin, but it's use was stopped for greenie and carcinogenic reasons.
This is waking up some old info.
I'm interested in whether the final drives of the M113A1 used engine oil? The Lubrication orders for the M548A1 specify OHD15-40 when I contacted Castrol they suggested their RX Super 15W-40 which is an engine oil. The Brit equivalent of the M113 the FV432 uses 90 weight gear oil in the final drives and I'm concerned that the Castrol recommendation may be incorrect.
On a similar note OHD10 is the recommendation for the Allison transmission (TX-1000-01), the Oz Army used OX-47 and Castrol suggest TFC-410 but even on their website page for TFC-410 there is a notation "Allison no longer recommend this fluid for on highway use" any thoughts for a civilian fluid for the Allison transmission in an M548A1?
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
