    TD5 head gasket issues @ 120 - 150K Kms

Just joined. Wish to find out how extensive the problem of head gaskets blowing in TD5s between 120 - 150K Kms, lose coolant and require top overhaul? This happened to me this week. Workshop has 4 other TD5s that same has happened to within last month. Fortunately, I did not cook engine, however while head is off it was recommended that we have all the work required for top end o/haul @ $5000 approx. If this is a serious problem, then why haven't LR done something to fix it?
    Cheers "discodriver5254"

Hi Chris, what are you doing frequenting another head gasket thread?

Back on topic, the early Td5's (up to 2001) had head issues due to plastic dowels shearing/ melting and the head shifting IF they got hot. I know of quite a few that are fine as they haven't been overheated.

I have had 3 in the last 3 months too.

    Getting back on topic lads.......

I did my headgasket at about 150,000 k's. I wanted to do the same as check valves and all the other related stuff but it was suggested it was not required.

    Certainly at 250 - 350,000 k's but not at your k's.

Mine went at about 130k, shortly after fixing that I had to have the head replaced due to hairline cracks letting diesel into the sump (via the cylinders).

mine at 82000ks. now 150000 and good.
(except broken stud on exhaust.front one .You know the easy one to replace)
    done yesterday,old manafold had a 4mm warp.

There is plenty of owners on here that have replaced the head gasket, its not that hard but be careful and check prices for spares.
