Where do you get it? Flywheel Locking/Timing pin 300TDi
Where can I buy a a flywheel Locking/Timing pin for a 300TDi, has anyone made their own, if so how about a diagram or pic/specs, Thanks, Regards Frank.
Hi,
The Haynes work shop manual says you can make one by drilling a hole in the flywheel housing blanking plug (little brass plug at bottom of bell housing just behind the gear box). The hole needs to be big enough to take a 3/16 drill bit. You then just push the drill bit in through the hole until it slips into the slot in the fly wheel. I haven't done it but it looks easy. You'll probably need to get a new blanking plug too.
Ian.
just remember to put bright orange tags on each of the pins........like they do on aeroplanes as you don't want to start the engine with one left in, i remember a guy on here doing it and destroyed his fuel pump from memory
M14 coarse HT bolt between 50 - 75mm, find a lathe and put a spigot 5mm x 5mm on the end and chamfer the edges.
For the Injector pump, a 11 or 12mm drill with 3/8 shank; put tape around the sharp edges of the drill and smooth the shank and top part of the drill with emery paper. That puts the injector pump spot on in the middle of the adjustment - an ordinary 3/8 drill allows some adjustment (BTDC/ATDC) The picture is what somebody put on ebay not long ago.
Thanks fella's, I don't have a wading plug in either the flywheel housing or the bottom of the timing cover, so I will make one up tomorrow, thanks again, Regards Frank.
From memory, for the flywheel pin I just turned down the end of a bolt to the same size as the flywheel slot.
You remove the small plate at the lower front of the bellhousing and it goes horizontally through one of the holes there.
Mine is a D1 Auto - I think the manual is different.
I made mine out of a 1/4 BSP (or is 1/2"BSP ??) M/F adapter, drilled and tapped to 6mm down the guts and used a 6mm cap screw with the end turned down to 5mm.
Fits the slot neatly, just screw the bolt in and out to lock the flywheel.
Like Rick 130 I made my own, 1/4 to 1/8 bsp brass reducer, tapped a 10mm thread and ground down a soft 10mm bolt to about 5mm to engage the key in the flywheel, used a drill to lock the fuelpump, all stuff I had lying around home.
