Hi Guys,
I got this a while back but then it disappeared and I thought no more about it. Now it's come back and with alarming fequency.
First the motor sound like it's starving for fuel for a few seconds maybe more. Then I get the "check engine" light (has a little pic of engine block), then I get the "manual mode" and "sport mode" lights flashing at the same time. I lose all accelerator and it just stays at idle. I was pulling over and turning the key off then on as it cleared it but today it got so bad that in traffic I simply dropped it into neutral, turned it off and on and then just dropped it back into drive again.
As of about an hour ago, it's stopped doing it and everything is as normal.
The only other thing that happened was that I got a different set of warnings with the abs, handbrake, hdc-green, hdc-amber, off-road and traction control lights coming on but the car continues to function otherwise normally. This happened only once
What the!??

Yeah, that would help wouldn't it!

1. The most likely thing to check is the injector harness plug/socket assembly at the front LHS (looking from front of car). It is under the acoustic cover. Check this for the presence of engine oil. This is a common TD5 problem, and there are many postings about it, and what to do about it. (Do a search for "Oil in injector harness").
2. You could have a problem with the TPS (Throttle position sensor). I have had personal experience with this, and if it has lost throttle control at some point (idle only & engine light on) due to a fault in the TPS it will leave a fault code in the ECU memory which will confirm it. It will either be a faulty throttle pedal potentiometer, or possibly a wiring or connector fault.
These are the most likely causes of your problem.

Lionel
Thanks Lionel, I do recall now the oil in harness thing so much appreciated for reminding me. I'll sus it out in the morning.

Hi Lionel,
Just wanted to say thanks, it was oil in the harness and a lovely mess it was too. Spent about an hour squirting metho into the ecu plug and then blowing it out with the compressor until there wasn't anymore and the same at the other end as well.
She's been running great all day and while I know what needs to be done long term (from other threads), at least it will be good for a little while.
Thanks again mate!.
Cheers,
Pete'
Glad to be of assistance!
Cheers,
Lionel
