Any common faults with D1 Cruise Control

    Hi All,

It seems that my Cruise control is not working.

No lights when I turn on the switch (dash Master), just doesn't seem to do anything. Have tried fuses, they are ok and everything else on that circuit works.

I have read the guide and tested at appropriate speeds but nothing. I think it is electrical, but was hoping to get some ideas before I go looking myself to try and save some time.

Are there any common faults or suggestions where I should start?

    Thanks, db.

There are a couple of common faults but I think you need to investigate why your switch isn't lighting up too.

The usual cruise control problems are perished vacuum hoses & a dislodged/inop brake switch.

You might need a copy of the RAVE CD (available through here) for the electrical info to check your switch power problem.

Scott, Thanks, I will try and track down an electrical circuit diagram. The Vacuum hoses and actuator were replaced recently, so I don't expect this to be a problem. I am quite sure it will be electrical.

    Cheers, db.

    d1 cruise control

My cruise control stopped working, again. The new brake light switch I installed had failed, and it was a genuine LR one. Test it with a multimeter on ohms and it tests out ok. Put a light bulb across it and it does not work. Fitted another one. Then today I found one of the 2 tiny wires that go to the brake vent valve had broken. See how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks Blackbutt, I am headed in to the city tomorrow to see a man about a gas conversion...

If I get home early enough I will probably take a crawl around inside, had a quick look but couldn't see the switches on the pedals, suspect I will have to pull out some paneling. Was dark and couldn't see much, something best left for the daylight I think.

    Will post what I find.

    Cheers, db.

ok, the brake switch as stated above is a high probability, it isn't the same switch that lights the brake lights, and it get's dislodged and sits back and allows the thing to think the brake pedal is pushed down, you will have to remove the ****ty cardboard thing your toes hit when you stretch your legs [unless you're built like pedro]
next on the list is the vacuum pump which is mounted under the left side where the jack normally sits, behind the left headlight and below the flat bit the jacl lives on.
this is a low spot that can get dunked when you push through deep water, it is lower than the bottom of the headlight.
just pull the pump out, prise off the plastic cover and have a look at the condition of the relay inside, it may need a bit of tlc to get it going. i have had to restore mine a few times, and it is mow mounted higher [the cable and hose are quite long, so mine is now high and dry on the side of the airfilter box.
    i hope this helps.

    Hi Harry,

Thanks for this information, it seems that this was the problem. Managed to get down to it and found the switch wasn't working when you applied the brake, refitted it and it seemed ok. Test drove it yesterday and all is now well.

    Cheers, db.

Is there an ECU involved in the D1 cruise control system or is it simply vacuum pump, pipes, actuator/electrical switches?

Yes, it has it's own ECU.
