Does the Puma have a DPF? It is only an option on the EU transit with the same engine AFAIK.
I'm sure the Defender TD5's for AU did not have the partic. filter - don't know about late TD5 Disco 2's.

Couldn't tell you about the Puma's. Dullbird or dm_5 should be able to help, but I don't think ADR's require them yet, so LR may not fit them for AU.

Both the puma/transit 2.4 and the TD5 are high pressure commonrail EFI diesels.

Both are Euro IV emissions compliant (maybe not early TD5s in OZ???).

Emissions control is via high pressure, computer controlled injection, in conjunction with EGR.

The Oil centrifuge fitted to the TD5 reduces soot buildup in the engine, but will have little-no effect on soot emissions from the exhaust (except in reduceing weaqr and thereby long term emissions).

The Puma/transit 2.4 may have a bypass filter?
Just Sootier in the oil. It's not as bad as precombustion type engines, but nowhere as clean as I reckon it should be. Sorry I couldn't respond earlier...just returned from work trip.

The TD5 has a bypass centrifuge which is very good at removing soot. The 2.4TDCi *may* just have a full flow filter, or it may have a combination FF+bypass filter. Either way not quite as good.

You can buy an aftermarket Mann+Hummel centrifuge and fit it, but they aren't cheap.
