    From 'Midal' on another thread...

"Hi folks.....in answer to your queries of a few days ago in regard to LR mechanics in Karratha.....the original dealer, Lance Harper, sold out a couple of years ago and it is now looked after by Moxham Motors right in town. He runs probably the biggest car dealership in town, situated on Balmoral Rd. Not a plug for him, I'm not connected in any way but there are no signs displayed to show he looks after LR so a lot of folks may not know. I had some minor work done there some time back and the service was good.
When Lance ran the dealership he did under the name of Protune in the light industrial area, and he sold both new and secondhand LR's, all the servicing etc. I bought my Discovery from him.

    Cheers, Mick"

    Hi

Thanks for that. I saw that and its where i started my inquiries, however from the thread i cant tell what company its refering to as the 4wd repair place? i tried Moxham and they have no record, nor think they would attempt a td5 head.

Any clues? it looks like pro-tune is still going tho... may try them..

    Thanks

Ok I have tried everywhere in Karratha now and nobody knows anything about it..

apparently but not confirmed tho the head was welded

    its really not sounding good..

Any other suggestions? any other places in the NW WA that could do this kind of job?

    Thanks

I would allow for a replacement head in the purchase price, around $5k or so though it may be more now, chat to Kevin at Rovertech.

The place they normally crack apparently is very hard to weld properly.

Not really sure but excess fuel flows through the head before being sent back to the tank and I think mine was between the fuel gallery and one of the cylinders which led to the sump filling up with diesel which led to the engine running away....

Yeah luckily I managed to stall it before it melted down, was very scary, happened half way up Kalamunda hill (I took my foot off the throttle and it just took off like a rocket), I was in the left lane fortunately and there was a spot to pull over and stall, surrounded by a cloud of smoke.

It is a 2002 MY. The new head is an '03 which Kev reckons has been much upgraded. Happened at similar km, 130,000, now at 210,000 and going strong.

Lance was doing a bit of work at North West Mechanical but Id doubt if was in the last 3 Months.
Most shops in Karratha are Land Rover Phobic and few are competent in my experience. ( not to say all are incompetent )
Most Land Rover owners I know in Karratha drive to either Perth or Broome. Personally I have found Whyatts in Geraldton to be very good (only a 2200 km drive)
