    Engine hood lining sagging

My engine hood lining is sagging and resting on the top of the phenum chamber, alternator, and expansion tank.

The main part of the sag looks like it is a result of the lining getting wet from fan spray from water crossings. The lining has stretched and no longer fits when pinned back up.

So the question is this. What would be the disadvantage of removing the lining altogether?

yep, I did think of that, but I'm a V8 so it will not be as big a deal as it would with a diesel.

I'm wondering if the heat from the engine will effect the paint?

it does anyway......the engine heat cracked my paint...and I still have the hood lining on...and I think V8's get a lot hotter than Tdi's so I would imagine will happen regardless
thats why my bonnet has been blacked out

    Hey mate

The same thing happened on my old Defender

I ended up ripping it out

After a bit of searching my local rare spares place (Thomas Parker Rare Spares) had some replacement stuff. Comes in a big sheet, with sticky stuff on one side. Might be easiest to pull the bonnet off and do it though

Cost me $60 for a big sheet, and I just cut the shape out I needed and reused the rest when I made my speaker boxes

Mine was sagging and rubbing on the diesel injector lines, engine cover and top radiator hose.

A simple fix - which has lasted - was to use Sikaflex to stick it back up there.. Worked a treat.

My bonnet insulation suffered from the same problem. The local Rover dealer here replaces it with a Mercedies equivalent item #1266820026.
Sorry but I don't know what car this comes from but they did mine and it's much nicer than the standard Rover product.
It's a type of insulating foam and just needs a small bit of trimming.

You can buy a new genuine lining for about $115 - I am about to replace mine for the same reason, but now that I have read about the do-it-yourself stick on material I am going to do some more looking around before I do.

    Hi all,

My bonnet liner was hanging down as well (300tdi) I ripped it out........that was two years ago. There is no noticable extra engine noise, and my bonnet paint hasen't faded or cracked

    Regards to all Jim
