    Sliders

    Hi all,

I have been looking at buying some sliders from Rovacraft, it looks like the sill has to be removed to install them, has anyone done this?

Its brand new so I don't want to make a mess of it but I am not un-technical so if it is not too difficult I should be able to do it, just wondered if anyone had any instructions or should I just take it to someone to do.

    Its a Defender..

    thanks
    Patrick

The catalogue says they replace the sills so they would have to come off.

As to whether you're capable of doing this yourself, I can't say.
Do you have any Mechano experience?

Used to love Mechano, grew up on it and still practice my engineering skills with my 7yr old son with it.

I guess to elaborate, I have a set of spanners and socket set, but I don't have a welder.

If the sill can be removed and the slider put on without a welder I should be fine.

On the defender, the sill is a strip of aluminium running under the doors. It is held in place by a few small bolts, so there is not cutting or anything involved. You simply remove the bolts and the sliders bolt onto the outriggers from the chassis, which already have the holes there....I think.

My 110 sliders required no cutting or welding to fit. Spray the little nuts with WD40 the night before you try removing the existing alloy strips. There are heaps of nuts/bolts to remove - fiddly.

As mentioned, the sills are very easy to remove - if fiddly. The hardest bit is removing the plugs at each end where the flares connect to the sill.

Does anyone know how the sliders on the fenders connect to the front outrigger? I am currently designing and eventually building some for a mate with a fender, and I looked at his front outrigger and there doesn't seam to be any holes for it to attach to. Are the holes meant to be drilled, or is there some other way of attaching them to the from outrigger.

The ones we built for Offender90's car - we used the bolt that holds the firewall on. I will be doing the same with mine. On the IIA, I just welded a small 12mm plate, drilled and tapped to M10 to the end of the outrigger.
