R380 getting hard to shift when cold

Freaked out this morning when I took the old girl for a spin. Reverse was hard to engage, and all the forward gears were heavy to engage. took a bit of force
I haven't checked the oil yet, but there hasn't been any leaks visible. Later it seemed to shift better when hot..
I have had Penrite light gear oil in there for the last 3 years. So I bought some syntrans and will drop the oil and see if it makes a difference.
    any views.

No in the R380, but yes in the master Cylinder.
If the clutch was not depressing surely I would hear the cog teeth scream blue murder??
But, it does feel like trying to put it into gear when stationary without depressing the clutch first when it was cold today.

I ran ATF in my R380 as I lived in a cold,in winter, area and couldn't change gears with oil. It's the same in Kal,winter here is quite frosty so I run Redline MTL and it's the best in my gearbox. Pat

syntrans, i have had d3 atf in it befor but that was only cos i got water into the gearbox and had no other oil,, iv been told d3 is good in them but i think that syntrans is best cos 1 its what landrover say to put in, and 2 its made for man boxes, so its has to be beter then d3 atf oil,

i cant coment on the temp and gearboxes for i dident no they made diffrent oils for diffrent climents,

Are you sure that your clutch is clearing properly? Difficult gear engagement from rest is a classic symptom. MUCH more likely than the oil - particularly if it has been OK to this point.

if you do go to syntrans just bear in mind that it can tke a month or so of driving for the full benefits to present themselves....

this morning I had a hard time getting the lever to go into reverse, it took a few attempts, harder than the forward gears, then after it warmed up the gears went easier. The rubber sheet under the centre console looks a little chewed around the selector base, so wondering if a bit of that rubber is jamming the selector ball area.
So when this weather clears . I'll have a look

I chagd the oil today, but I have a home brew of castrols in the box.
I couldn't find Syntrans in anything bigger than 1 litre bottles, ( a dear way to buy at $30 a POP) I pumped 1 litre in and opened up the other bottle and noticed it was a different coulour to the first one I put in.
On closer inspection I noticed I had bout Syntrans and and Syntrax.
One is red and one is honey coloured. They are both recommended for manual gear boxes and transaxles, the difference is in the visco, 75-85 the other 75-90, I don't think it would be a problem?
