will disco 2 wheels give me a wider wheelbase on my disco 1

I want to change my wheels and tyres on my disco 1 from 15" Sunnys with 33 x 12.5" tyres to 16" rims with 33"+, and 10.5-11" wide. I also want to keep/get the widest wheelbase I can, as I already have flares fitted, and want the added stability.
    So my questions are
Do disco 2 wheels have a wider offset(put the wheels further out on my disco 1)? If not, then what offset should I be getting to get the same or wider than I already have?
How wide a tyre can I fit on a 7" rim?
What is the cheapest 8 x 16" rim?
    Or 8 x 17"?
Will 17" rims be much harder to get large diameter tyres for?
What metric measurement will give me 34" by 10.5/11" on a 16" rim?
What tyres are made in Oz now if any, that would fit my bill?
Thanks for your time everyone, and sorry for my lack of knowledge and repeating commonly asked questions.
    I'm fairly certain I'll end up with 255 x 85 x 16 or 285 x 75 x 16.
Will the 255s go on a 7" wide wheel?

    The D2 wheels won't fit a D1.

Yep, D1 and D2 wheels have a different PCD and stud size.

RRC or Defender rims will fit the D1.

275 I think is about the biggest you can get on a 7 inch (maybe 285), 255's no problems!

If you want a wider track, you need to get rims with a different offset so that they stick out further.

BF goodrich make a 255/85x16 in mud terrain so does Maxxis. Cooper (yuk) also make one in the st. I reckon the 255 is the best choice as 285 is getting too wide. I have tried 33x12.5x15 and the 255 and the 255's seem to work better in all conditions.

What 255s did you run, and where they on 16s?
