The water coolant sensor in the expansion tank on the Rangie has broken the resistor that joins the two sides of the probe has corroded and i was wondering if anyone has repaired this sensor and what value resistor to replace it with.

Don't even bother, It's a waste of time. I had the same problem with my rangie except the seals in the cap were shot too. Solution, bridge the 2 wires that attach to the cap, and replace it with a standard cap. Best cap i reckon is the ones Repco do, big solid yellow lookin thing.
Later i bought a low water sensor from my mecanic for about $80 and installed it into my top hose, and then wired it up to the wires i had bridged previously, so when the buzzer goes off inside the low water sensor, The coolant light on the dash also flashes.

The original Rangie ones are ****.
I replaced it the first time with a genuine unit and it lasted only 6 ****iing months before it failed again
I have an aftermarket sensor installed in the Expansion tank for 10 years now and working fine.
It's worth fixing! despite what some dodgy ******* here will tell you.

from memory an original cost $75 over 10 years ago.

I cant show a photo of the installation at the moment cause the truck is 4500 KM away. But you will need to drill another hole in the SIDE of the expansion tank to mount this unit. Leave the original piece of crap where it is.
Very important to have a low level coolant warning. It has saved me from cooking my engine 2 times now.
Doug From memory 180 ohms is res value .I have repaired mine about 5 years ago and still ok I have repaired others as well and all still ok. You can get a reed switch from the alarm sensors from altronics/jaycar etc if the leads are corroded on the original. Just remember to selastic up around the o rings when reassmbling.Ok just had to do my sons resistor I used was 100 ohms all working again now

What would life be without a Rangie?
I tried repairing mine to no avail. Got a new one from TRS in Adelaide. I can't remember the cost, but a lot cheaper than destroying my engine, which would have happened if the sensor wasn't working.

Thanks for the replies. The one that is in the Rangie has been in there for a lot of years so i think that i will try to repair it and see how it goes if it fails i will look at the other options.

Doug,I installed a Rangie coolant cap[PRC7925] to my 300TDI Disco and used a coolant interface module from www.teb-tec.co.ukThe module provides a green LED when coolant level is ok and actuates a red LED and buzzer when the level drops.
I see you have already replaced your original system but should you ever decide to go back to it,the module will enable you utilise the Rangie cap.
Sorry Doug,reading your original post,I see you were only enquiring about fixing the Rangie coolant cap.The built in series resistor is 680 0hm.
I bought my cap from the UK cost $60 delivered [4days] thought that was pretty good,back in 2007!
