Thread: blower motor keeps on blowing fuses

My Discovery's blower motor (the fan motor inside the car) keeps on blowing the 30A fuse inside car's fuse box. It runs okay on lower speeds, but only blows the fuse when running on max speed. Max speed is achieved with a relay connecting it directly to 12v.

I've taken the motor out a few times, trying to "fix" it by greasing the sleeves in which the shaft runs. I've played a bit with it last night, and it runs nicely when connected directly to the car battery BUT the shaft end on the brushes' side gets very hot. I admit to fiddling with the brushes before too and I assume they're not making good contact now, and the motor is drawing too much current. I don't know too much about electric motors - is this kind of motor something that one can have "serviced"? The brushes can be removed (clips and springs).

A few months ago I took the fan out to clean it - there were leaves and stuff inside it. At the same time I oiled the sleeve bearings, and I don't think I did it any favours. <sigh>

Sorry I can't help you, I have to pull mine out as it's making bad noises.
