I would have it about 5C over thermostat fully open.

I have installed thermos on my 82' Rangie and want to instal a temp cut in switch threaded into the manifold, but i'm not sure what temp switch to get. I know the thermostate is rated at 78 - 83 degrees, so should you have the thermos cut in after the the thermostate opens, say 85 -90 degrees or the same? Not even sure yet what if any variety there is in these switches. Any opinions welcomed!
Robert.

Hi,
Plenty of switch info here:

You can get an alloy tube with one or two threaded holes for senders that you fit as part of the top radiator hose. (i.e. cut a section out of the hose and fit the tube with hose clamps)
cheers, DL
My main fan cuts in at 93 and off at 91, the secondary cuts in at 95 and out at 91. This seems to stop too much heat getting into the rad when towing up hill. I occasionally see 108 to 110 but it drops down quick once the loads off. Coasting down hill with this setup wuill often see the coolant temp drop down below thermostat opening temp (sometimes down to 83deg) so the fans allow plenty of flow when off. Im using ea falcon fans
I don't want to take your thread over but I have a question the same.
I have a thermo fan fitted to the defender only 14" not big enough(getting 16"). My question is, Is the ajustable switch that you get with the Davis C fan any good or am I better off getting a fixed temp sender for the fan. And what temp?
Regards
No problems with the DC adjustable thermostat so far, been fitted for approx. 18 months.

On at 90, off at 85.
just make sure as said before the thermostat opening temp is less than the fan cut off by 3-5 degrees.
Cheers
Andrew
Are you running an 82deg thermostat Andrew?
I want to mount some twin thermos on the front of my radiator to assist the mechanical fan, whilst on the beach or low range stuff. Is it a case of just getting some ford type thermo's and reversing the wiring so they blow instead of suck or do I need to dismantle and reverse the props?
