    '04 Defender A/C thermostat/adjustment

Had the A/C regassed in the Defender yesterday, and after checking it all was working, came back with the fact that it was only cycling at 14 degrees C. Apparently A/C units need to be cycling at around 6 or 7 degrees C, which I guess would explain the poor performance out of mine. I know the defender units are not what you'd call "top shelf" in the perfomance stakes, but after hearing that, I would've expected it to be a bit closer.
Anyway, he asked if there was any sort of thermostat adjustment in the unit, of which I had no idea. So if anyone can shed some light on this issue, it may potentially save me some time and dollars if I can either do it myself, or if there isn't one, save him pulling it apart for no reason.

no there isnt an adjustment for the thermostat in itself.

if you can be bothered pulling it apart you can shift the temperature sensor closer to the gas side of the evaporator unit which will make the compressor run longer.

But get it too cold and the evaporator freezes over and the aircon wont work for long. It will usually work for long enough for a tech to test it and decide that its ok and then charge you the $50 for looking at it.

I personally think its a quality control thing on the gassing of a unit that actually too small for the job that its got to do here in AUS.

to little and you cant shift enough heat around. Too much and you freeze the evaporator in about 20 minutes. The best solution i found is a marginal over gassing (about 20g over the maximum nominal charge) and then pulling a diffuser body from the under dash ducting to increase the airflow.

Thanks for the advice on that one. Pulling the unit apart was not high on my list of things to do, but I'll certainly look at the second option. I guess it's the best option to make the most of an ordinary system.
How accessible is the diffuser in the ducting? The vehicle is back in Brissy at the moment, so I can't go for a look until monday.
