The aforementioned Merc diesel (OM617) is a good engine in a Mercedes, not so in a Land Rover. It it a very short stroke engine for a diesel and is governed to 5,750 rpm. They revved as smoothly and had similar top-end performance to the petrol fours and sixes offered alongside the D.
That's not to say it's a bad engine - it's just not suitable for a Land Rover. Much in the same way a 4BD1 wouldn't be in keeping with the characteristics that 70s and 80s Mercs were designed to have.
This is a stroker kit not an overbore so it wont be any different to rebuilding a standard motor in terms of liners etc. Its based on the brazilian motor just for a standard 300tdi.Quote:

HS2.8 = 93mm nominal bore (stroke = 102.5mm)
300Tdi = 90.47mm, maximum oversize IIRC = 0.5mm
and REGARDLESS of that (even if it were NOT an overbore) there are still design issues with the 300tdi that dont make it reliable in a WORK vehicle when uping the power and not addressing themQuote:

Basically everything would be as per standard but with usable extra power.
If I still have my Tdi when it dies I'm going to whatever pistons fit after the bores are cleaned up and then a ported head,better turbo and intercooler and exhaust,with a good tune up it'll give me all the performance I need.At the end of the day what you want it for and how much you want to spent will determine which way you should go. Just to put it out there. What would the engine capacity be if you only used the stroker crank and kept everything else stock????
If it was possible to do it you might need different connecting rods as well I suspect. By my calcs using the figures posted above the 2.8 is 2785cc and the 300 Tdi pistons would provide 2635cc (2665cc if max oversize).Quote:
