Engine swap 300tdi to Isuzu 4bd1

Ive been toying with the (long term) idea of getting a worn out 130 & swapping over the engine/drivetrain from my Isuzu.
Am I right in assuming there are no ADR - pollution issues with Vicroads as its a Diesel? I assume that is the basis for requiring a same or later year engine?
    Thanks,

I don't know particulars with VIC, but essentially the same year requirement is about compliance with the ADR's at the date the vehicle was manufactured.

AFAIK Isuzu used the 4BD1T in Australia to about 1991 (could be later). But it is possible that relevant ADR's at 1991 were not changed for some few years after that - you would need to find out for the year model of the 130 you plan to use.

I can see no difference between pollution controls on an Australian 300Tdi (last used early 1999) and a 4BD1T, except that the crankcase breather on a 4BD1T is open to atmosphere.

IMHO, if you separate (the stock separator on a 4BD1T is not too flash) the oil from the breather and connect to the engine intake you should be ok for replacing a 300Tdi.

It should make a good combination if you need a 130.

Just a word of warning about the Merc 2.9 if it is a electronic pump model, VERY irritating and $$$$ to repair as MB use diffrent stuff to everyone else, including smaller diameter injector lines (So you have to make an adapter for timing light etc) unusual connectors and fuel line connections, very grunty engine etc BUT a Pain to work on and no one wants to help you with information. I just went through the whole rigmarole with an ex 2.9 sprinter ambulance, not allowing these back in the workshop again now
So, nice power plant and sounds cheap, but not the easiest thing to repair. The CRD (later engine) are a different kettle of fish, very powerful, reliable and effficient.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

While you're talking about conversions, what about the current 3.0L Isuzu diesel in a Defender. Obviously a custom adaptor, engine mounts need to be sorted. Opinions/ideas welcomed.

The reason I like my 4bd1 is the fact that I could burn out my entire electrical system in the vehicle, and being a mechanical diesel I could still get home, albeit with no lights gauges, wipers etc.... I am not against electronics,(my other car is a TD5 D2) I would like to keep the electronics in the vehicle separate to the engine as much as possible. The basis of such a 130 build if it ever got into the phase and not solely being a pipe dream, would be a vehicle capable of long distance overland touring, having the ability of running on absolutely any crap grade of bio or dino diesel fuel I could put in it. Yes it could be done on a stock 300tdi 130, IMHO the 4BD1 and 4BD1T are a bit more robust and built for the application than the LR engines.
