Thanks, you must have costed it out, or maybe you are just an eternal optimist.

Nothing else seems to cost all that much really to get in from the UK so I am still quite excited at this option.

A 300TDi alternator shipped from UK $150+, I reckon a stroker kit would be anywhere from $600 to $1000.
What's this "nothing else" that costs FA to get in, I think $186 for an alternator is fair, but $150+ to import is ridiculous and as the Kit is over a $1000 there will be import duty and other fees, check it out yourself, Regards Frank.

Why would you consider a stroker kit costing approx $4k -$5k fitted to gain an extra 300cc as opposed to fitting a 3,9L for about the same amount of money?

I personally like the 300tdi more than the V8 off road. The torque is where I like it and it has no computers or distributor. It also uses one hell of a lot less fuel.

Have you driven an Isuzu powered rover offroad?
If you like the 300tdi offroad, then you'll be salivating while driving a 4BD1T.

Enough torque to spin all four wheels on gravel in third gear.

I meant the 4BD1 or 4BD1T (they have a capacity of 3.9l) I don't know how anyone could compare them to a 2.5. With almost a litre of displacement per cylinder as opposed to .625L on a 300tdi, you do the math.

Just to keep this totally off topic, I flicked Mr UK ebay 300tdi stroker kit a message, this is his reply...

    Dear

Shipping cost to your Zip code via TNT is £185.00
the kit is priced at £1126.09 excluding vat.
    so total will be £1311.09.

So at current exchange plus say visa fee it would be $2450 or so...

paying 10% duty would be cheaper than splitting the consignment and having two items under $1000. So would be what $2700 landed.

I guess if you grenaded a 300tdi and needed a crank / pistons or rods and didnt want the hassle of a conversion it would be feasible.

They never sold the Isuzu Land Rovers over here so I know bugger all about them, I don't doubt they are very good, esp in a loaded up 130. I know the 300tdi very well, I have good relationships with parts suppliers and mechanics. For me it would be just a headache. I like that it would look like a 300tdi and be just as easy to maintain, no adaptors or plumbing, but go like stink. I have read about this kit done in the US and they were putting out 170bhp and 270lbft of torque on standard turbo but big intercooler. Thats more than enough from me and my gearbox. We have quite tight certification rules over here which would be one more thing to deal with. The original motor isn't going to raise eyebrows.

And now we know its not going to require the mortgaging of my house and selling of my children or living the rest of my live in poverty just to have it sent over.

    cheers

The Isuzu powered landrovers were sold here, just not in the numbers they were sold in Aus. I remember them being advertised in 4x4 and 6x6 formats to farmers etc but they are rare over here.
All the Isuzu parts are available through Isuzu truck and industrial dealers. The turbo motors will do 400+ ft-lbs just by turning screws. More when you fit an intercooler. But yes you'll need a good strong gearbox.

Remember that certification in NZ is also technically required if you up the power by more than 20% or even if you change turbos.
Of course the letter of the law and the application of the law are subtley different.
