Tappet cover bolts just looked weird, so they are just a double hex socket then huh???????![]()
yep an 8 or 10mm bi hex from memory, they arent tight so if you dont have on get a cheap ring spanner cut off the handle and weld it to a junk socket. then grind it down to get clearance.
a good soldering job would also hold up.

8 mm 12 point hex socket is required. I use a 3/8in drive socket. Well I did as I changed my bolts to allen head bolts. The original 12 point ones round off far too easy.
Don't know why Land Rover put them stupid spline bolts on the tappet covers,
They are called spline drive, so unless they are a bit loose you will need a spline drive socket to get them undone.
Allen keys to undo the plentium chamber
From then on, inlet, exhaust, tappet & head bolts are regular.
The only other place ive seen the spline drive bolts used is on the front diff ends.

I use a women, not really a special tool but works for me!
