PRC2924 is the standard under bonnet light as fitted to the Classic RRs.

You'd be better off fitting some LED lamps IMO.

Take a feed off the parking light circuit & either fit a manual switch, tilt switch or even just a regular door pillar type switch.
You'll only need it a night time so that's why I suggested using the parking light circuit. At least that way you know the light is off when it needs to be.

You mention the LED option. Where is there a cheap LEd light suitable for this purpose i.e. one that won;t melt with the close proximity to the engine.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    G'day Scott,

Thanks for such a propmt response. The lamp was purchased as the advert stated it was RR Classic and also Defender. The lamp shipped with a rubber band holding the lens to the lamp chassis and there are two mounting holes...but i am not sure where excatly to mount to the undersdide of the bonnet. And yes i agrre with your valuable advice re: LEDs and power source (didnt think of the parking light circuit). I will retro-fit some leds to the PRC2924.

Do you have any suggestions as to where I should mount the lamp under the hood?

    Cheers,

    Pete.

As long as you don't mount the light 2" away from the turbo, I can't see heat being a factor.

If you're worried about that, mount it towards the front where it'll get some airflow.

How about some undercar LED/neon tubes - they'd look fully sick under a Defender bonnet .

    Season's greetings.

On my 74 RRC (81 body) there are two stock underbonnet lights mounted on the support frame about 300mm from each side and 300mm from the front.

Activated by a door pillar type stock switch off to one side in the plenum cover panel when the bonnet is open.

Go led and use the parking light circuit as suggested. Mine are only marginally better than having none at all.

    cheers, DL

    Hello again Folks,

Thanks for all the replies 350RRC, Scouse and VladTepes. We are on the road at the moment traveling Bris Vegas to Sydney and we'll look at fitting the light on our return to Darwin in about a week or so.

For the LED globes...i am pretty sure Jaycar stock a suitable replacment LED globe.

Again thanks for the responses and have a safe NYE and prosperous 2010!

    Cheers Pete.
