    D2 springs & shocks into a D1

    Hi all,

I've done a lot of research into this topic on this forum and have been unable to get the definative answer.

My mechanic tells me that I should replace my springs and shocks on my D1 1996. I can source some fairly new D2(000) springs and shocks for the cheap price of $100. What fits (with or without modification) and what definately doesn't?
    • Can I substitute the front and/or rear springs?
    • Are the shockies compatible?
    New I'm looking at $1000!

    Cheers,
    D

I think the springs should fit. not 100% sure though

I don't think the springs will fit without different spring seats.

D2 springs will fit if you use the D2 bottom spring seats.
    rear D2 shocks wont fit.
dont think the front ones will either, if they do you will need the D2 upper shock towers, the bottom mount for the shocks will bolt to the D2 spring seat, but i dont think the D1 spring pearch (bit welded to the diff) will be big enough to clear the T bar on the D2 shock.
    rear D2 springs will fit.
anyway..if your getting new suspension for $1000...you might as well just get new D1 suspension. you can get 4 springs and 4 shocks for under $800..

    cheers phil

Does a std height or 2" lift for $730 posted.

Lots of people seem happy with the set up.

Thanks guys....it seems as though the springs can be fitted with minimal hassle but the shocks are totally incompatible.

I've also found out that the factory springs (i.e. the ones from the D2 for the D1 which were spares) I'm being offered for $100 are generally of poor quality. Can anyone comment on the quality of the factory (spare) springs/shocks?

    Cheers,

You woudnt replace worn out tyres with worn out tyres would you???? The D2 stuff will be worn out just as much as yours.
Is yours sagged?,if not you should get away with fitting 4 new shockies, coil sprung vehicles rely on the shock for ride quality. The coil gives you the ride height.

The only thing that will go across without modifications is the rear springs.

With modifications the front springs will come across too - you will need a D2 lower perch.

    Rear shocks wont go across

    Front shocks wont go across.
    Cheers
