Ignition Amp Module change on 1996 D1 3.9

    Hi guys,
Just a question about Ingition Amps. I have a 1996 d1 v8. I suspect my Amp to be playing up as when the car gets to Temp it gets a bad miss and losses power. I have picked up an amp from a 1998 model and looks identical except it has difference numbers on it.

Original is lucas DAB118 21418904 on amp and on the silver plate it has 3RM 1898, ERR5210, 42597A

    The 1998 one is, Lucas 80428B 2595 and on the plate 3RM 2895, ERR 5210, 42597A.

The qustion is are they compatable to be swapped. I took a punt and put it in tonight and it starts and runs ok in the shed but will it cause any damage or problems in the future. I still have to go for a run tomorrow it see if it has fixed the problem but though I better check first.

    Cheers, David.

It'll be fine - but I'd suggest getting a new one ( $40 for generic or $90-ish new mail order), and keeping that other one for a spare. Or, keep a new one for a spare. It's only 2 years newer than your old one, and you never know when these things decide to conk out. The thing that kills semiconductors is overheating, so plenty of heat conductive paste (If you haven't already).

Thanks Langy, Good to know. Yes I have put plenty of heat past under the Amp and even added a heat sink for a bit of extra heat disappation. Make me wonder why they put it next to the radiator in the first place, That's LR for you though
    cheers, David.

Because the side of the radiator is dry and probably cooler than the where they mounted the old ones on the dizzy side which copped the direct engine heat from below
