Er , what is this "maf " you speak of ? Does "maf" mean Mass Air Flow ?

A very interesting concept for a Diesel engine indeed !!!

All modern design diesels have them.

On the TD5 it is just after the air filter box.

All modern Diesels have them ? So is the 300 TDI a "modern Diesel" ?
    The one on a TD5 , is it a Flapper , a Vane or a thin film type ?

To answer Gordo, 300Tdi doesn't have a MAF as they are not electronic or common rail engines. They have a standard inline injector pump.

400, from your previous posts, you seemed to know everything. Don't tell me you actually don't........

Actually, a version of the 300tdi that didn't make it to Australia (EDC) does have the MAF, just like on a v8 (Presumably hotwire).

any engine thats electronically injected has some kind of MAF.

90% of the time its located in a dedicated housing after a short section of air trunk from the Air filter box.

its usually easy to identify as its typically free standing with a single cable leading to it.

Alas Wizard , its quite obvious hat I dont indeed know everyting , infact I have a rather large gap in my knowledge of the Landrover product after around 1995 , so much to be learnt as I get back into four wheel driving .

Its got 2 wires in it which the air flows over.

The 300tdi and the Isuzu are both old diesels, so they don't have them. The opening thread insinuated to me that he came from a background of 300tdi and Isuzu rather than thats what he had.
