Another posting on the right tools reminded me Id been meaning to post up the tools to use for a filter change, heres my exclusive tool set for changing the spin on filter

From left to right
a rubber strap cam action filter strap, I got This one for $10 from Aldi in a 2 pack. Ive seen them at supercheap, auto one and kmart auto occasionally.
Put this on from underneth the exhaust manifold from behind the turbo so that it grips when you pull it out towards you once youve got about 1/3-1/2 a turn the filter should turn by hand, spin the filter off and tetris it out.
Next is the BIG Buck W901 glove, its got an artificial leather palm and inside of the fingers and grips really well These I got in return for doing some work for someone but they are available from supercheap, some truck suppliers and blackwoods. I usually use these to put the filter on on hot engines or the ones with the 2.5 inch exhaust.
last is the G tek MaxiFlex 34-874 its got more grip than the big buck but less insulative property. I get these at work but they are availalbe from blackwoods. These get used to put the filter on on cool engines or ones with the 3 inch exhuast.
Before tetrising the filter into place Put some fresh oil into the filter onto the threads and onto the sealing ring
to do it up get the filter started by holding it up from under the manifold and behind the turbo with your right hand and spin it up with your left hand from infront of the turbo.
when its touched grab it with the right hand and tighten it up a further 1/3-1/2 a turn.
Naturally use only genuine parts from a reputable supplier for me thats MR auto.
to do the centrifuge filter use a 1/4 inch socket set and only tighten to about 10Nm....
Since IVe just sold big red I cant easily demo on mine, If someone in brissy wants to hold and shoot a camera in return for the labour on an oil change drop me a line and I'll add a complete howto to this thread.

SubscriberI gave up fiddling around with strap type filter tools and made this up out of a bit of 3mm steel plate. Works like a charm.
I also place a plastic bag around the filter first and this catches any excess oil as I manouver the filter past the turbo etc.

I used the "starter cord method" somebody posted a while ago when I did a service a few weeks ago.
Brilliant,even better it tightens the filter just as easy.
Easiest way Ive ever changed that TD5 spin on!!!
