Replacing Borg Warner with LT230 on RRc/zf 4HP22

    Hi people

Being lazy here. Can anyone tell me what bits I need to fit a LT230 to a ZF 4HP22 that is currently coupled to a Borg-Warner transfer box?

Are the LT230 ratios for the 4HP22 the same as the manual boxes (1.222:1) or something else? (What should I use?)

Talking to AMV in Melbourne about this very topic this morning. Greg has done this to a few VC tfr case cars. Advantages include cheap repair, longevity, ease of maintenance, perhaps slightly better fuel economy. Disadvantages include drive train clunks etc.

His application puts LT230T (or Q) from Disco into Rangie. He leaves the console as is and adds an electric diff lock actuator for that function rather than cutting up the VC-type console for another lever.

He has had no negative feedback, because people who want LT230 in the car want it for a reason.

Just get the whole box and levers, etc from a late Disco 1 if you're heading down that path.

Just whilst you're on the topic - are the propshafts re-used? I've read some threads that suggest either the front or both are a different length.

    Now ZF vs R380 comparison

    Hi people.

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the overall transmission length between a ZF-LT230 and a R380-LT230 if both combinations are fitted to a V8?

In the light of a lack of replys I have eventually found Slunnie's post Auto conversion which seems to imply the same overall length.

For other's questions. From reading the Aschcroft Transmissions Site it seems that the LT77 is about 70mm shorter mainly due to the length of the O/D (5th gear) housing in the R380.

And, ditto about propshafts - I got around to measuring up BW vs Lt230: they're the same. (At least on the cars I had to play with)

    Hi Diana,
What are you chasing a short gearbox for?
I recall reading something about a short bellhousing for one of the LR gearboxes, I can't remember which one, but I think it was the R380 and Ashcrofts may be the suppler.

There was an OEM short bellhousing for the TDi 200/R380 that Ashcroft's have reproduced. Given that there are obviously shorter primary pinions etc. I don't know if it can be adapted to the V8.

I have crossed purposes here, with a number of task options:
    1. Fitting an LT230 behind my ZF-4HP22 in a RRc (in place of the BW viscous T/F).
    2. Repowering my SIIB forward control with a 4.6/R380/LT230. (Clearance issues with the cross member behind the transfer box.)
    3. Or possibly fitting the R380/LT230 into my RRC and the 4.6/4HP22/LT230 in the SIIB.
