    TDI brake bleeding (ABS)

    (1996 300tdi with abs)

I have searched old brake posts for 3 hrs with no success.

Situation: front Caliper failed big time and bleed MC dry overnight.
Caliper repaired re fitted and system bleed. Result good brakes some time and occasionally questionable. The brake pedal is sometimes spongy.

Now rave indicates bleeding as per usual and nothing special mentioned with ABS.( Am i missing something or reading the wrong section)

In some posts people state ignition on when bleeding. What is the correct method please?

What is this power bleed mentioned in many posts but clouded in mystery an explanation into how to do it correctly and its benefits. Thanks in advance.

Your problem sounds similar to what i experienced recently. Vehicle was 2003 Td5 110 with ABS.

After replacing master cylinder, ABS Module, and overhauling front calipers and bleeding by every means possible, I still had a spongy brake pedal.

After systematically clamping off each caliper. finally traced to air trapped in front calipers.

The solution was to remove the front calipers, insert packer between caliper pistons in place of rotor and then bleed with bleed nipple held high.

just get one of those bleeders that you plug into the compressor and it draws it through, highly recommend it, did our abs d1 the other day in about 15mins (fluid and caliper changeover) (thanks Matt, gotta get me one of those)
