Wouldnt be far off.... I usually do... Silicone + Factory Gasket....
Then I'd drive right out the driveway
Hi all
How much time do I need to give Permatex gasket silicone before I can drive on it?
I am replacing my rear diff cover with an ARB cover and want to know if I can drive after about an hour.
Cheers
Andrew

Silicone for construction has a cure rate of 1mm per 24hrs.
It does skin quickly but fully cured that is recommended by high performance silicone suppliers.
Not sure if automotive is similar or given temp it works with it may be quicker.
I have also only ever applied and once finished, drove out or away.
No ill affects thus far.
depending on the grade and how you apply it.
it generally skins in about 5 minutes
initial set is usually 1 hour
full cure is between 8 + 24 hours.
Depending on the application (and the grade you used)
Skinning is usually enough to deal with low temps and low pressures (not for body joints I reccomend at least initial set preferabley full cure before you drive it)
Initial set is fine for all landrover gaskets except for some on the td5/v8s The worst offender is the rocker cover seals and the plugs on the td5, most times you need that to be somewhere between initial setting and full cure to work perfectly. Generally speaking if your doing something on one of the gaskets thats going to cause grief if you do the job as early in the piece as you can and wait till after youve done the cleanup and had smoko you'll be right with anything thats got a cure time under 24 hours.
