    General Grabber TR tyres

Has anyone any experience with these now standard fitment tryes to Defenders? Are they any good or should I replace? Thanks people

The Poms rave over them in the English mags and they also seem to do real well in their tyre test comparos too so they can't be too bad.

I'm not sure which tread pattern you have on your Defender though.

They are a very good tyre. I've done 41,000 on mine and they are about 50% worn (I've measured the tread depth against the spare). About 30,000 of that was towing my Kimberly Kamper. They are a good all round tyre in the wet, dirt, mud, sand, snow (yes they have seen snow and ice) with the limitations you'd expect from a more road bias tyre in mud.

Living where I do I would favour a slightly more aggressive or less road bias tyre and when these wear out I will probably go with the General Grabber's but in a more suitable pattern.

    I'd strongly recommend them.

thanks for that. Mine are definately an on road tread but would be good in sand - I am mainly in sandy conditions as part of my work but also lots of mallee roots for staking so need a strong tyre for this. Have stuck with Bridgestone 661 10 ply in the past with good results but only average milage.

I'm not sure what ply rating they are but they are designed for inflation to 84psi.

Lot of sand and dust up here with rocks and roots and like I said they have been very good.

I have found them very good on the road. I don't use them in the bush as I have a set of Grabber MT's on steel wheels which I use for the rough stuff, but they are lasting well, and they grip very well on wet bitumen.

They should be fine for sandy conditions, and they seem to be strong in the sidewalls.

    Cheers,

    Lionel
