Question Month old water pump belt allready cracked, is this ok ?

pretty much as the title says, i recently installed new belts and particular the water pump one allready has cracks in it ?

could it be they were old perished stock ??

or is this not much to worry about ...

Use Gates or Dayco and you won't have problems. Pat

Wouldn't think that they should be cracked after only a month.

I would drive back to where you bought them, and get the manager to check them in situ. They should agree & offer you a replacement set.

In that case, I would suggest that they would be rather interested to see them.

Maybe their supplier gave them some old or faulty stock.

    Status Update:

Ive been running 1x Gates and 3x Dayco belts since removing the ones that cracked back in Feb.

The company who supplied them, blamed me, one guy said i fit them too tight, the next that they were to loose... and they also try tell me its normal

i don't know and its a bit hard to prove.

except that its been 8 months now, and i just took them all off again to replace my water pump and theres not one crack not a mark or anything on any of them.

you can just tell the difference in quality by looking.

they were sold to me with a pink "Allmakes 4x4" tag on them. (i think they are the importer/wholesaler but not who i bought them from)

so heres some pics of the original ones: (the cracks are pretty much all way around, in varying sizes.)

This damage from just one months use:

btw my new belt part numbers are:

    Dayco 10A0675C
    Dayco 13A0990C
    Dayco 13A0925
    Gates 13A1000

The only time I've seen rubber crack so quickly like that is when it's lost it's pliability. Old Dried out/exposed to excessive heat etc.
Rubber should bend and be pliable, the webbing inside the belts gives it the strength from tears. No way should a belt do that so quickly.
Maybe the rubber compound used was faulty and is too brittle
