Just doing some planning - starting with a rear locker and axles.
Is the Maxidrive lockers still available or do I go with the ARB air locker and MD axles?
Anyone know of best price for parts only?
Also, to fit MD axles and drive flanges, is just a matter of removing the current factory axles and flanges and installing the MD units?
Cheers

Thanks Isuzurover
I rang MR Automotive. They will begin reproducing the MD Locker for the Salisbury at the end of the year.
MD axles, flanges and new seals (to convert from grease to oil bearings)have been ordered for the rear.
Now I am not sure whether to wait for the MD locker or jump in now and buy the ARB Air Locker....
Cheers

What would be the (true) advanatges of the MD over the airlocker ?
Some goose said "no air lines" until I put him straight and said there are. (ok technically a "no air" (vaccuum) line !
I will be looking to eventually fit MD axles and an airlocker to teh front of my rig... eventually.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
The MD/MR locker advantages:
Simple design
Light only lights up when locker fully engaged
Once engaged will stay engaged until pressure/vacuum supplied (ARB needs constant pressure to stay engaged)
No o-rings to leak
No compressor needed (but can be used with compressed air if you wish)
Disadvantages:
Some welding needed to install
Need to remove stub axle to remove axle (halfshaft) on dog side
Slightly slower to engage/disengage than ARB
Possibly a weaker design than ARB, however that is debatable as MD have much greater depth of spline engagement, and either way it is a moot point as the dog splines are not known to break
That is the question...do I wait until the end of the year...or get the ARB air locker ($1278 for the rear locker, $175 for the little compressor, plus bearings and seals...plus MD/MR axles, plus fitting - all up about $2600!!)
The O-ring leaking on ARB's seems to an issue but not sure if this is due to poor installation or poor design.
The rear MD/MR HD axle kit (including flanges and new oil seals) is about $800. I can install these myself.
It is a big outlay....but I am keen.
Just is just a matter of when and who will I use to install the locker. ARB Capalaba is the closest to me.

Why not go for a detroit soft locker - they work great in a salsbury, are cheap, easily installed and really have no or little effect on the drivability on the road - mine has been in 5 months only ever heard it go clunk once and that was doing a tight U turn in a carpark - you would never know it was there.

A word of warning.............
We have heard of issues with ARB installing them
We bought ours...for the disco... and got our LR mechanic to install it and have never had a problem with it
