Air locker RD56 O ring - What size?

    Hi folks,

I want to have an O ring on hand so next I take my rear diff out I can change it. This is the O ring that prevents diff oil getting sucked up and spat out your activation air line on an RD56 air locker.

I rang ARB to see if I could fit the new style one with the flat sides (hexagonal cross section?) but they reckoned you couldn't retrofit them. I don't have much faith in that answer but that is what the salesman told me.

Can anyone tell me what size the current O ring is and if I can actually retrofit the new style one?

    Thanks

I would email ARB Airlocker direct. Daniel Bongard is the man and he is very helpful. He is the engineer and the senior product development supervisor for Airlockers and the air compressors. He has given me advise on how to hybridise lockers in the past and so this will be a cinch for him. The new lockers did however move towards standardisation of parts, but the sales rep probably only has the part numbers to go from rather than the actually technical knowledge.

Thanks for the contact Slunnie. I have been emailing Daniel back and forth and we have hopefully fixed it.

This is a common rover diff problem apparently. You need to file the locking tab down so it doesn't touch the seal housing and I also replaced the O rings just in case.
Time will tell if I did everything right and it is fixed.

ARB products are worth every cent with technical backup like that.
