    air con cactus

    Any fellow fridgies here????

I pulled the evap out of my series I disco as it was totally blocked with gunk, dirt, leaves, new intelligent life forms and various other stuff.

fan now blows and it great but heres the problem:

The suction and liquid lines have a compression fitting on them and in reassembling it, it appears that the suction line fitting is not opening as it keeps pulling into a vacuum. Has anyone here got any experience or advice about this as I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do??

if youve opened the system its got air in the refigerant lines and it wont work properly.. If youve removed a component you need to take it to a certified aircon guy to get it regassed as it will have lost 90+% of the gas.

the suction line is ment to suck thats why its a suction line..... If theres no refigerant pressurising the system it'll pull down to anything up to 15 inches of mercury on the suction side.

do you know how your aircon works and what the bits are ment to do or do you need a more indepth fault find?

if its more in depth that you're after... whats the gauges reading on the high and low side, what weight of gas have you got in?

I am a qualified refrigeration mechanic - I am the senior refrigeration trainer in a private RTO and I have the relevant Arctick license.

I put about 400 grams into it, which would be a bit short if it was 134A but as I am using propane it is about on the mark to charge properly; as there is no exact charge weight it is experiment.

With this amount of charge it shouldn't pull straight into a vacuum; It also stays in a vacuum after I turn it off, hence it has a total blockage. Now due to the speed that it pulls down it has to be on the suction side as it is to fast to be before the evaporator or a blocked TX valve (which is also new)

the problem is obviously these fittings but I have never worked on a landrover A/C before so I need a bit of a heads up on these fittings and how to make them work?

you didnt do something daft and leave a blanking plug in place when you did the fittings up? Ive seen that before.

the only other thing I can think of it being is if youve twisted the line and collapsed it or if the propanes reacted with the oil and its sludged up in the tail end of the evaporator.

have you tried cracking the joint of the TX valve and the evaporator and doing a nitrogen push back from the low pressure fitting?

Nar every thing is good on it if I back off the adapter between the suction line flare nut and the suction line from the evaporator I can hear the gas purge through but it also leaks. If I tighten it up to stop it leaking it stops going through the line??

I dont like being a butcher but I am starting to think a 10mm drill bit and my battery drill are going to rip the guts out of all of it and then there is no impedence or restriction to the gas flow. BUT that isnt fixing it - it's got me buggered at the moment
