How would i go about removing and refitting the Dizzy
When looking in the engine bay from the front
i was under the assumption that position 1 on the dizzy should be at the front center and went clockwise from there
Mine 1 is at 3 o'clock and i have set the order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 it wasn't anywhere near that after my recent trip to the mechanic
on my old Holden to do this all i do is put the mark on the balancer on TDC
Check that the piston 1 is up top
Stick the dizzy in anywhere i like and put the button on and where ever the button points is 1
put the cap on and adjust it enough buy eye to pointing just before 1
Its fairly simple stuff on an old car
Now when i put this rover V8 at top TDC the piston isn't at the top i have to turn it a bit until it lines up with a big white line inside a cut out on the balancer
So my knowledge ends there how do i set TDC and refit the dizzy
I cant fix the original problem till i fix what the mechanic stuffed up

So piston 1 is on the passenger side
Not the drivers side
so i followed the instructions on this page
twin carby v8 no start.
noluck aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Pull out number 1 spark plug (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE) When the piston is at TDC you can feel that with a small screwdriver through the plug hole. Rock the engine a bit each way to confirm you are at TDC. Get a piece of rubber hose and blow into the plug hole, try to seal the hose against the hole. If you can't blow air in its at firing TDC. If air blows through and sounds in the inlet or exhaust you are 1 rotation out from TDC number 1. Either rotate the engine 1 turn or set the rotor to point exactly opposite number 1. Make sure the dissy is fully engaged with the oil pump drive, there should be no gap between the dissy and the engine front cover. Turn the oil pump a bit if you need to with a screwdriver.
Did as explained in the other post to the letter as its the first time better to do it right
In one of my other posts it explains why im doing it
I took it to the mechanic with a blown head gasket and he couldn't see the green stuff leaking out of the head gasket so i said don't worry ill come and get it
when i got there he was hitting the air flow meter with a big screwdriver handle
To cut it short i took the car it was running worse than when he got it and when i had a look today the leads where on wrong so i fixed that still no better so i looked at the rotor button and it was pointing the wrong way so "fixed that"as per post and know it doesn't start at all so i have stuffed up the timning and know im tinking the timing isnt the only problem its the MAF as well
Also he was going to charge me for something
I can only suggest that you check the way you set up the Dizzy .... If it's 180 degrees out (You accidental set it up (TDC) on the exhaust stroke / not the compression stroke) then it will not fire up at all
If you think the MAF is at fault / Pull the plug on the MAF .... Spray some (a touch) "Curcuit board cleaner" (octane) up the near the butterfly .... This will get the car to fire up for "a second" to help figurer out if you have spark working properly
Mike
Did the whole procedure again
even put a hose in there and blew my guts out it was sealed good it is at TDC for sure
I check where the button is pointing and that's 1 start from there and fit leads
Still doesn't fire
