and i thought it was salt water v fresh, fresh water is more challenging fishing in the ocean is like fishing in a fish tank you know your going to catch something, me though i like to cast out some bait as usually my old man sits there bait fishing and then i go for a wander with my flick stick
Now we are talking.
I fish mainly with soft plastics and lures.
Last weekend picked up 2 Jew biggest 5.194 kilo on sp's
and 7 kilo plus size bream.
Had a great day.
Glad to see fellow anglers.
Regards,
Dave
I vote lures.
Although i've never tried flicking a fly, probably because i'm to scared of coping one to the ear
I have caught most of my trout on the tassie devil lures . Nice and simple and trout love them ...... more so in lakes than rivers tho .

Great Lures particularly if you are fishing deep as you said lakes ect. Also at the right price around $4.00 and their Aussie. Caught more trout on these than all my expensive jap lures put together.
I don't often fish for trout but my nan and pop have a propety at hanging rock just above nundle in NSW and there are two dams in which hold trout and we have found the best lure to be a 3" soft plastic stick bait.
CHEERS TIM.

I threw a line into the Todd River the other day just for the hell of it. Didn't catch anything but the rod was stolen in record time.
