    spotted shark in lake maqurie

went out the sarvo to drop some berley for tomoz, put the boat in at wangi(10tinny 5hpmotor) ive seen the local beach with smaller waves than what it was out there, anyway while batteling the waves to much it to the other side i noticed a fin coming for me, no bull**** it was a shark, it was longer than my boat and i could have reached over and touched it, on went the life jacket and thats saying something for me kept battleing to the other side and waited a bit than turned round and made the trip back which was not easy as i had to take a lot of waves side on tried my best to ride them when i could and head on when i could but was no avoiding them side on at times, it was scary knowing there was a shark in there somewhere bigger than the boat i was in anyway thats my fright but excite for the day, call it bull**** but i know what i saw

Yep its fun. We were fishing near Remark island and a shdow bigger than the 4.8m centre cab went under the boat.
Another day a 4.5m Bronzy took my line and broke my boat rod on 65lb braid.
Going shark fishing tommorow night. May use the kids for bait.

Look, with any wild animal you can never really tell what they will do as there are always rogues. But generally they will just come up for a look or be looking for food.
Makos are a drama if hooked as they will fight tooth and nail and have been known to launch into a boat to attack their hunter. I know of one occassion down here, 5 in a boat, 1 angry Mako launches into the boat after the fisher, 5 fishermen in the water picked up by VMS and VMS would not get into the boat to retrieve it until the Mako was dead.
The thing is there are always sharks around wether you know it or not and most often they are harmless, but attacks can and do happen especially with more frequency as we pillage the ocean and take their prey.
I also personally know of a couple of cases in the NW of WA wher Tiger shaks have attacked boats and motors.
Great Whites are probablly the least of our worries.
Not trying to scaqre anyone, but often they will be lurking just out of your view as swimmers and snorklers field of vision is limited. Go diving and you may see a few more and most will or can come quite close without being a danger.

Since the lake was closed to commercial fishing, the fishing has really improved but the sharks have now come back - mainly bull sharks.

It is probably no longer safe to swim in the creeks that around the lake but the lake itself should still be OK - but there are now plenty of sightings.

It is a sign of the rapid recovery that the lake is going through.
