    IHI turbo problems?

Had a close look at the housing around the wastegate on my IHI from an '87 NPR and was wondering if I should be worried by these hairline cracks?

Do these IHI's give more wear & tear problems than the Garretts? There must have been a reason why Isuzu ditched them in favour of Garrett (was it just a case of supply $?)

G'day Bob, Bit hard to see how far down that crack goes from the wastegate seat but if it is only what you can see in the photo I dont think it should cause any problems apart from maybe a very small amount of leakage. Maybe caused by heat, exhaust flex on wastegate housing or even a manufacturing flaw. I would just monitor it. Like you I am not sure why the change from IHI to Garrett.
    Cheers......Brian

The leakage will drop your boost a little, otherwise nothing to worry about.
Look at drilling and pinning the crack to stop leaks, otherwise I have an old IHI which is suitable for parts.

Of interest, there's a housing A/R number on those by the neck. Mine was a 9, what is yours?

Are these some of the numbers you're after?

The only other numbers cast are "A 6 J[upside down]"
    or possibly "J 9 A[upside down]"

That's exactly it. The 11R is the A/R of that housing. It's 11mm which compares to 0.43 on the inch scale that garrett use.
I thought mine was a 9, but now I think it's probably also 11. Just tried to find it in the garage and failed.

    BTW, nice photography.

HTC Desire smart phone - like an iPhone, only better
A mate who's got an iPhone was recently giving me heaps for the "ugly thing" I've got; I explained it to him like this - iPhones are like the Land Cruisers of smart phones, the Desire, or really the Android OS are like Isuzu County's. He understood & got annoyed because he's got an Isuzu too!

That's impressive for a phone. I'm not one of the iPeople either. Does the Desire have G sensors and programs that can log acceleration and display angle?
