I've been looking over a few "new" 6BD1s, they seem to be Chinese manufactured copies.
Anybody know what the story is with these?
Didn't they stop making them.?

I've been looking over a few "new" 6BD1s, they seem to be Chinese manufactured copies.
probably out of china,
They use them in all sorts of vehicles over there
I have a mate from my china days who is now maintaince manager for a government bus company. Its all they use, never rebuild just drop in a new donk, sell the old one to some one who rebuilds them and sells down the chain.
do the Chinese supplier sites

I too was interested to know where they were made so I contacted the seller. As suspected they are Chinese made. Lots of differences to the Japanese motor - Externally anyhow.
Cheers......Brian

These have been coming in for at least a couple of years now. I had a look a while back and found out that at least one Chinese manufacturer is called Dongfeng, or something like that. They are popular in Chinese buses, but also used for other applications. I think the power was fairly low and, for some reason, they were about 50kgs heavier than the Japanese made originals.
I'm seeing a lot of parts that won't interchange on the outside. The whole timing case is different, is that a vacuum pump or compressor mounted on the left?
Alternator is high right side, fuel pump location is the same, manifold I've never seen before, thermostat housing is bizarre.
I wouldn't buy one for a vehicle. Might consider it for a pump or industrial application if the price was half that.
One of my clients bought a brand new 4BG1T not long ago, from an Isuzu dealer of course. It looks like our motors, the one in the ebay ad doesn't.
Seller tells me it's "Chineze and 135-140hp."
He didn't mention what size the horses are in that part of china.
Here it is right here. 88kw.
4BD1T engine products, buy 4BD1T engine products from alibaba.com
Other chinese websites show far more accurate copies of the 4BD1T, some prices listed around $US3k FOB.
Add in another $US1K for sea freight, customs etc.
I was talking to my friend today from rotec design about their project and how long before production starts etc.We then got talking about the different applications etc that the r.e.d.d. system will be made for , looks like the 4BA,4BD,4BE and one other that I cannot remember. He explained all the technical jargon too, but as I'm not mechanically minded it didn't stay between my ears
Looks like they will be offering a part exchange deal ie: your engine plus $? for a fully reconditioned unit converted with the redd system installed. There will be several manufacturers of the parts required, but engines will be assembled in Thailand by one company. (This project is to clean up the pollution in Thailand)
As his company will be buying thousands of components etc. I was trulyat what these engines will cost to build. Now if he can sell me six 4BD1's at cost.........
He did say if I wanted the ultimate "grunt mobile" then to have a 4BD1 Turbo Two Stroke fitted. But would the gearbox stand up to it ??
Watch this space
Will the 2 stroke 4BD1T beat Randy's 4BD1TT with approx 500hp?
It seems to me that cleaning up thailand would involve fixing the tuk-tuk's first. I was in Bangkok in late March.
Funnily enough the second smoggiest city I visited on that trip was Paris. No point climbing the eiffel tower as you couldn't see anything.![]()
