    LT 95 reco?

Hey Guys! I thought I'd drop this thread in here to as well (I also put it in techincal chatter) as you guys most likley deal with LT95's more than most.

I was wondering if anyone can do/recommend/ a reconditioned, exchange LT95 (to suit a stage 1 v8) with or without the tapered roller bearing mod in Queensland? I’ll travel for the right job well done. If so what sort of money would one be looking at? Also can parts still be sourced for my Fair overdrive that’s stuck to it? I’ve searched the net and just keep coming to dead ends. I don’t have time(take me days) to remove and replace the gearbox myself at the moment, so I’m expecting the successful company will have a hoist/ transmission jack/ small machine shop and provide a warranty and complete the job in about 4hours? If not I may have to work something out at end of this shut down I’m on at the moment.
If you want to know, my gearbox is not really a sycro-mesh any more, more like a rando-mesh, sometimes good, most times bad and the transfer case is really starting to howl/grumble when I back off. I’ve messed with all the sorts of oil and now some additives, the results the same every time, I reckon it’s got a few thousand left in it yet, but I’d better start thinking of doing something about it soonish.

    Hi,

Had mine re-built about two years ago by British Offroad. From memory it was $3000 all up including new clutch, in/out.They had problems with the syncro quality at the time, so had come out and get re-done as second was not changing very well. If coming down from Emerald best to sort anything else out at the time.

    cheers

Thank you Very much!!! I didn’t want to mention that I changed the synroc rings, bearings & oil pump in the box while doing the clutch about 20000k’s ago. I found the new synroc rings went a little too far on the taper for my liking, but thought “well these are the new ones, they have to be right?” Unfortunately it started grinding from 4-3rd, then 3rd-2nd soon after, I thought I must have messed something up, still might of. I got my synroc rings from British Off Road, so maybe the new synroc rings where just ****. I regret I didn’t do the transfer at the same time! Still I think British off Road offer a great service, I’ll give then a call!

    Thanks!

    Hi Guy's,

Just after some advice also, I'm having similar problems with my gearbox in 83 stage one isuzu and was wondering if it's the begining of an expensive adventure?

I'm guessing it's the same box LT 95 or LT 75 ?? But it started getting a little sticky going into first mainly when cold, but seconds getting a little sticky now also and the odd crunch.

I am pretty certian it's original box, Main question is does this sound like I'm in the **** and up for reco?

Any feed back would be great.

    Cheers Nick

The gearbox in the Stage 1 is an LT95. It sounds obvious, but first have a look and make sure you have fluid in the clutch master cylinder and make sure the slave isn't leaking or bypassing. Then check the gearbox and make sure it has plenty of oil in it.

Even if both seem fine, change the clutch fluid and gearbox oil before you decide to pull either apart. Check the gearbox oil that comes out for broken teeth and metal filings.

That's cheap and easy and will eliminate a couple of obvious possibilities.
