    Cool 4BD1T WTA Intercooler.

For those that are interested, I thought it might be nice to post a pic of my newly installed water to air intercooler. At this stage I have not adjusted the fuel or boost. The engine was running slightly 'lean' of best performance prior to fitting, ie blowing no black smoke even at full throttle. The boost is now going to a maximum of 11.4 psi, the drop of 1-2 psi being normal. Intake temperature has dropped from just under 100 deg c to less than 20 deg c under similar conditions.
The vehicle has a noticeable increase in torque, is able to attain a higher speed more quickly, and has an improvement in economy if driven sensibly, which is rarely!.
The next test will be if the structure handles the wilds of Cape York.

G'day Ron, it's protection for the air-cond hoses connecting the compressor to the condensor.

    3.9 turbo

    Hi Gerry

I have a naturally aspirated Isuzu 3.9 and want to put a turbo on it , I am looking for a turbo kit possibly from a Isuzu truck with the same engine as I believe the factory landrover/ Isuzu kit is hard to get hold of or very costly .
Your install and plumbing looks very neat , is it off the shelf kit or your own setup , would like to know where you got it from looks great .

    regards

    James

G'day Bailey, my 4BD1T is an early factory version, with the IHI turbo, same as the ADF 6x6's, later versions can have a liquid cooled Garrett turbo with more bhp. I got mine from a truck wrecker, so far touch wood, it's all been good. The conversion was easy, as the county was originally an Isuzu. If your's is, all you'll have to think about is the aircond; standard, it sits too close to the turbo. There are a number of previous posts, do a search for '4BD1T' on this forum.
G'day EchiDna, it's a stand alone system, running fluid through its own 'radiator', in front of the engine radiator, where the aircond condensor used to be....I'dve liked to know too, but I didn't have time....ps Bailey, forgot to mention there are some parts for the conversion that are scarce, they are the oil filter etc extensions, so the assembly clears the front prop shaft....
